My Story

Why I Started Pin-Up Meals

As a parent, I’ve experienced firsthand how challenging it is to provide healthy, home-cooked meals every day. Between work, parenting, and life’s endless responsibilities, meal planning often feels overwhelming.

But my journey with nutrition didn’t start with motherhood—it started when I struggled with fertility while trying for my second child.

From Fertility to Family Nutrition: My Journey with Food

The Fertility Wake-Up Call
After my first child was born via IVF, I expected our second attempt at IVF to be just as smooth. It wasn’t. Struggling to conceive, I began researching ways to improve my chances. That’s when I discovered that nutrition—more than supplements—was a key factor in fertility.

🔹 The Science Behind Food & Health
Determined to take control of my health, I pursued a Nutrition Science course with Stanford’s Centre for Health Education and started applying what I learned. What began as a search for fertility solutions opened my eyes to the broader impact of food on our long-term health.

🔹 The Picky Eating Battle
Around the same time, my son developed picky eating habits. I wanted to ensure he was getting the right nutrients for his growth and development, so I took courses in child nutrition and feeding strategies.

The more I learned, the more I realized: so many families face these same struggles. That’s when Pin-Up Meals was born—a way to help parents provide nourishing meals, without the stress of planning, calculating nutrition, or grocery shopping.

Why Home Cooking Feels Impossible for Parents

Like many families, I started noticing how our modern lifestyle makes home-cooked meals difficult:

1. Time Constraints

Singaporeans work an average of 44.3 hours a week (Ministry of Manpower, 2023). By the time we get home, there’s barely enough time to cook before rushing into bedtime routines.

2. The Hidden Cost of Eating Out

Many families rely on takeout (“da-pao”) and food delivery, but this comes with nutritional risks:

1 in 3 children in Singapore consumes too much sugar, increasing their risk of diabetes (Singapore’s National Nutrition Survey, 2022).
✅ A study in The Lancet (2021) found that frequent consumption of ultra-processed foods increases childhood obesity risk by 40%.
90% of children in Singapore exceed recommended salt intake, raising their risk of high blood pressure (Health Promotion Board, 2023).

Cooking at home gives us control over what we eat—but how do we make it practical for busy families?

A study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (2020) found that children who eat home-cooked meals at least five times a week:
🔹 Have 25% fewer diet-related illnesses
🔹 Perform better in school due to improved cognitive function
🔹 Are 50% less likely to develop food addictions later in life
